About Tafari Wraps
Tafari Wraps offers breathable luxury wearable art crafted from natural textiles inspired by the vibrancy of the Caribbean and landscape of Africa, restoring dignity and uplifting the spirit.
House of Tafari Collection was founded in 2006 by CEO/Chief Designer Imani McFarlane after leaving a traumatic career as an interior decorator for a Boston based firm. As a way to heal from the emotional trauma, Imani delved deeper into the comfort she found in adorning her crown in headwraps of ankara and silks—the very thing she was often ridiculed for in the all white, corporate space she worked. Unemployed and a single mother of three, Imani took a portion of her earnings to buy a 6 yard piece of ankara from which she created 7 headwraps. She began researching the vast history of head wrapping in Africa. With that knowledge, Imani created what is now our Wrapshop where she facilitated an hour long, hands-on program at the Dorchester YMCA. Currently, we sell our headwraps and accessories online via our website and wholesale platforms such as Faire and Dough. In addition to our Wrapshop and one-on-one headwrap consultations, we facilitate Creating Textiles with Adinkra Symbols, a hands-on arts based workshop inspired by Adinkra cloth making. In 2017 Delmeshia, Imani’s daughter, joined her on the mission to restore dignity and uplift the spirits through our products and services.
